How Big Data Can Resolve Regional Palaeogeographies in Tropical Climates

This course aims to teach learners how big data can be utilized to reconstruct regional palaeogeographies in tropical climates, specifically focusing on Southeast Asia. The course covers topics such as the tectonic assembly of SE Asia, issues with reconstructions, history of sedimentation, and the use of detrital analysis to fill in geological gaps. Learners will acquire skills in detrital analysis, light and heavy mineral databases, Raman spectroscopy, U-Pb zircon ages, and foraminifera dating. The teaching method includes lectures on theoretical concepts, case studies from SE Asia, and practical examples from Borneo and Myanmar. This course is intended for geology students, researchers, and professionals interested in understanding the geological history of tropical regions.
